Trial and error...

Hi guys!   How's everyone?  Good, I hope  :)

Stopping by to catch up a little and ask some opinions.... you know I gotta want something ;)

Things are going along here.  I've been working some extra hours since #2's been out with her heart condition.  I cannot believe the difference in attitudes with her absence.  Its terrible that things are happy and 'static' free when she isn't around.

Then, #1 has been out with sciatica and now pneumonia...  With both gone, everyone can speak freely and not work so hard to keep tempers from flaring.  Its a shame it takes a cardiac event to bring these things to the workplace.

Anyway, I sometimes believe that experience is the best teacher.  That doing is better than watching.  The following being the exception.  See, I am buying a digital camera and I have no clue as to which one to get.  Can't invest in something when I know nothing to compare it to...

The one I like is on Ebay (hee hee).  Its a Kodak Z740 Easy share, has a 10x Optical zoom, 5x digital zoom, and its 5 MP.

However, I just like the way it looks.

Now, I can't buy something like this because of the way it looks.  So I need your opinions, if you have one...

F E A T U R E S :

  • Point-and-shoot simplicity
  • 5.0MP for prints up to 20" x 30" (50 cm x 75 cm)
  • 10.0X Advanced Optical Zoom
  • 5.0X Advanced Digital Zoom
  • Preview and review with a crystal clear 1.8" color display - indoors and outdoor display is easy to view, even in direct light.
  • The Kodak Color Science chip collects scene data to identify and adjust factors that influence picture quality.

  • Automatic exposure
  • 80 minutes video clip recording (depending on size of memory card)
  • 10-second self-timer lets you get in the picture too
  • Flash: Auto , Built-in , Forced Off , Red-Eye Reduction
  • Auto white balance for lifelike colors in almost any light

  • On-camera Share button
  • 32MB internal memory with MMC/SD expansion slot
  • Compatible with Kodak EasyShare camera dock (Optional)
  • One Year Kodak Warranty

Back to watching.  I may be back later, never know ;)

I don't have that camera, but I do have an opinion...
I think the camera is pretty cool looking, too, BUT keep in mind that sometimes its nice to have your digicam be really small and portable, so you can easily slip it in your pocket or purse and take it everywhere.
Just a thought...

This sounds pretty good.
I like the 32mb internal memory. Very important for a back up.

Everything else seems good too.
The Kodak EasyShare's are really people friendly. I would advise you get the camera dock for this one.

One thing I would do before I buy would be to go and find THIS camera in a store and make sure you like the "feel" of it.
Looks are important but if it's too bulky it could be a real pain in the azz and you may not tend to have it with you as much as something you can EASILY tuck in your purse or coat or whatever.

Good luck with your purchase.

I think it looks like a really good camera Cat!
And just so you know...you do have a lot to think of rather then just how good it is.  My camera, takes beautiful shots of family, pets, nature, whatever...thats why I love it so much.  But it's not a camera I can obviously want to put in my pocket and go...I usually carry it in a tote bag.  AND...the smaller pocket camera's...you aren't going to get as good and as clear a picture as you will with the one that you picked out.
If you are looking for a just a fun camera, a smaller camera would be for you...but if you are looking to take beautiful pictures that aren't blurry or full of pixels...and you get a perfect shot 99% of the time...I would highly suggest getting the one you have picked out.  :)
If you have anymore questions...just let me know.  :)

How much are you intending to spend on 'this one', Cat, and what's your maximum price?

PS: I've been taken to the bank (and withdrawn) on Ebay before, and nothing was done about it. I know the ultimate place to shop for photography equipment online. It's where I bought my, Nikon 8800, saved hundreds of dollars, and received it overnight.

Hey, Cat .... I have a Canon Power Shot SD 400, and the thing is fantastic.  Excellent pics, great features, AND ... it is very small and compact, so I can slip it in my purse.  My last camera was too big to do that, and I ended up losing it.  This is much easier to keep track of.  I know these things sell like hotcakes, so I must not be the only one who's been happy with this camera.  I hope whatever one you pick out, you end up loving it !  Good luck, Tina http://journals.aol.com/onemoretina/Ridealongwithme

I like it too.  I don't know much about them either.  I want 8+x zoom, 5x whatever it was, video capability!  THat's all I know!  You'll have to fill me in on the price there!  I am looking for one and love the way that looks.  It also has the features that I am looking for!  Good Luck!

Colleen

I like that camera...it looks like it has everything you want.  We got the Nikon Coolpix 5600.  It's a great little camera...not as much zoom as that Kodak.  The deciding factor for me when we were looking was the lens, you can see in the clarity of the pictures.  We looked through a book at Circuit City of pictures of candy bags and things taken with each camera.  In our price range (I would have LOVED to have a thousand dollar camera..incredible pictures) the Nikon had the best quality photos, that's what made me buy it.  They're a lot cheaper now than they were a year ago...about a hundred bucks less than we paid.

I DO like the way it looks too....mine is small and boxy, looks like a cheap camera..that one looks 'professional'.  Makes a big difference in gripping it too, i dropped mine twice when i first got it before I got used to holding something so small.

Memory card is a MUST!  I got about 10 pictures on the camera without it, with the memory card...56 I believe...i get about 200 hundred pics...it was about 35 bucks for the memory card.

Good luck Kitty :)  can't wait to find out what ya get!
