Now the race card is being played down South. (Do we really want to go there again?) Personally, I do not believe this has anything to do with race.
It has to do with economic status.
These are the poor, elderly, and sick stuck in the mess in Louisiana and Mississippi. They had no way out. No money. No transportation. Nowhere to go.
The first fault lies with the States for not having an evacuation plan in place after Camille hit in 1969.
The ultimate fault lies with the Federal Government for not stepping in much sooner when it was realized the States could not handle the situation.
I do not want to believe that no help was given because the majority of the people stranded are black. I really don't want to believe that.
We should be so far beyond that issue by now. I said should be.
I know racial issues still exist. They may always exist. I just don't want evidence from the President, FEMA, or any other governmental agency that this is the case.
Because if it is found to be true for this disaster, it could set our country back 200 years.....
And this time, I'd be fighting for the South.

I am going to hold out hope that the problems here were a result of inept people in charge. The alternatives indeed would set us back 200 years.

I'd like to believe that card wasn't thrown in the fire, I'm just not sure...I'd really hate for it to be true, but sadly I don't put it past 'them'.
It's a dog eat dog world where the rich get richer and the poor die off. I'd love to see what it'd be like in a world run by Kitty ;)

It all has to do with econmomic status. But you are right they are playing the race card. But the fact is that majority of the Gulf Coast communities are black and poor. They aren't like the rich old white communities of Florida. And that is why there was so much chaos and devastation. Because the people there white black Vietnamese etc, are too poor to afford vehicles to leave the city. Most of those that had money left in their cars and went to family and hotels. Others knew they couldn't get out or afford to stay in hotels. I would be in the latter group and I am WHITE. We should not be playing the race card. It is a matter of the economic poverty in our country. It was something that we had not prepared for and when it happened everyone paniced and didn't know what to do!
